D. L. Moody is quoted as saying, “The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to Him.” He went on to say that he wanted to be that man. He wanted to change the state of the world in his time, and considering the far-reaching impact that godly man had, we can see that he certainly did. He knew his calling, and he put all his energy towards fulfilling it for God’s glory.
When we look at the state of the world today, we may come to the conclusion that we could use a few more Moody’s. But what we really need is real Christians to be what Christ is calling us to be now. Specifically, I’m talking about an area of great challenge for many believers–our willingness to share the Gospel.
The Great Commission Deception
In the portion of scripture called the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20), Jesus instructs His disciples after His resurrection to go out and make disciples in all the nations. Although not everyone is called to be a missionary in a foreign country, we can still impact our own country. Wherever we are, we are called to share the Good News with others (see 2 Timothy 4:5).
There seems to be some idea among Christians that only pastors, evangelists, and missionaries are called to share their faith. But the great commission is in every person’s Bible, and God has called every person to share their faith as opportunity allows. And yes, there are always opportunities.
Our Part in the End Time Push
Some estimate that as much as 29% of the world has still had no opportunity to hear the gospel. Most of these people live in areas with political, religious, and physical climates that make it difficult for missionaries to gain access, though some are trying. According to the Joshua Project’s estimations, “We are within range of penetrating every people group on the planet with the light of the gospel with more momentum than ever before in history.”
Paul said in Romans 10:14-15 that in order for anyone to believe, they must hear the gospel. And for that to happen someone has to tell them–someone who has been sent. Maybe you and I have not been sent to that far-flung 29%, but we can prayerfully and financially support those who are. And we can affect the state of the world where we live, because every soul is important in God’s eyes, and our role is clear on the world stage.
We can also rest assured that absolutely nothing will keep our Lord from fulfilling His purpose in His time. As we pray, the door will open for us to share our faith with friends and family. The door will also open for the Good News to spread to every dark corner of the world. In these end times, we will see miracles for real Christians who are willing to be who God calls them to be, even you and me.
You can find all this and more in my upcoming book!
